About these articles

Written From The Exam Room.

Our founder spent more than thirty years in private allergy practice before starting AllergyEasy. These pieces began as his blog and have been updated and consolidated. Each one ends the same way, because the question underneath most of them is the same: can this allergy be treated, not just managed? Usually, yes.Nothing here replaces a conversation with your own physician.

Three causes

Why You Are Exhausted.

Broken sleepA blocked nose lets the tongue fall back and the throat collapse, so you wake repeatedly without knowing it. Snoring and gasping are the signs.
Immune loadAn immune system fighting pollen all day releases chemicals that leave you foggy, achy and unmotivated. Concentration and memory suffer.
The medicineOlder antihistamines sedate. Decongestants like pseudoephedrine taken late disturb sleep. The treatment adds to the tiredness.
Allergic Fatigue Is Common And Underdiagnosed
Managing it

Sleep Hygiene For Allergic People.

Shower and change before bed in pollen season. Keep pets out of the bedroom. Run a HEPA filter and keep humidity under 50 percent.Time medications: non-sedating antihistamines in the morning, no decongestants after mid-afternoon, a saline rinse before bed. These lower the load. One patient described accepting dead-tired evenings as simply her life, until the allergy was treated and the fatigue was gone.If you snore, gasp or wake unrefreshed, mention it to your provider; sleep apnea and allergy overlap.
