The problem

Food Allergy Doubled In A Generation.

Food allergies in children rose 50 percent between 1997 and 2011. About one child in thirteen now has one, two per classroom.Eight foods cause 90 percent of reactions: milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish. The immune system mistakes their proteins for invaders and floods the body with histamine.Until recently the only advice was avoidance: read every label, fear every potluck, carry epinephrine. Avoidance manages risk. It does not change the allergy.
Why drops and not shots

The Treatment Shots Cannot Offer.

Injecting food allergens is not considered safe, so allergy shots have never been a food allergy treatment.Sublingual immunotherapy delivers tiny daily doses under the tongue, where specialized cells teach tolerance with a far lower risk of serious reaction. Studies have found it safe and effective for milk, egg, wheat, nut and other food allergies. Our food serum covers 59 foods in one bottle, prescribed by a participating physician and compounded to order. Few programs in the country offer it.
Beyond hives

Food Allergy Hides In Other Diagnoses.

Stomach problemsCramps, gas, diarrhea and bloating labeled irritable bowel are often histamine inflaming the gut after a trigger food.
Eosinophilic esophagitisTrouble swallowing and heartburn that antacids do not touch. An allergic disease, usually food-driven, often mistaken for reflux.
Eczema and asthmaUp to 40 percent of severe eczema patients have food allergies, and food triggers can drive wheezing too.

The treatment path

How Food Allergy Treatment Works.

01
Identify the foodsA food allergy skin test at a participating practice, or a careful history, shows which proteins you react to.
02
Start low, build slowlyDaily drops begin at a tiny dose and rise over weeks so the immune system adapts without drama. Keep avoiding trigger foods until your provider says otherwise.
03
Reintroduce with guidanceJane, allergic to wheat, milk, egg and tomato for life, added milk back within months. The cramping was gone.
Questions

Food Allergy Treatment

Is this the same as oral immunotherapy in clinics? It is related but gentler. Clinic-based oral immunotherapy feeds measured amounts of the actual food under observation. Sublingual drops use a compounded extract at home with a lower reaction risk.
Do you treat peanut allergy?PENDING client confirmation. Historically the program has treated milk, egg, wheat, soy, tree nut and many other foods but not peanut. Ask your provider which foods your serum includes.
Can my child start?Yes. The drops are safe from about age three, and early treatment may interrupt the march from eczema to food allergy to asthma.
Three different problems

Same Bread, Three Mechanisms.

Wheat allergyAn immune reaction to wheat proteins. Hives, mouth tingling, congestion, wheezing, stomach upset, and rarely anaphylaxis. Rye and barley may be fine.
Gluten sensitivityBloating, fatigue and digestive upset from gluten in wheat, rye and barley. Uncomfortable, not life-threatening, no immune antibodies.
Celiac diseaseAn autoimmune reaction to gluten that damages the small intestine and blocks nutrient absorption. Diagnosed by blood test and biopsy. Lifelong gluten-free diet.
Only Wheat Allergy Responds To Immunotherapy
Wheat allergy

Wheat Is In Everything.

Bread and pasta are obvious. Soy sauce, hot dogs, fried coatings, some puddings and many sauces are not.Children often outgrow wheat allergy; adults who develop it usually keep it. Labels must declare wheat under federal law, but restaurants and cross-contact at home are where reactions happen.Wheat allergy is one of the foods our food serum has treated longest. Daily drops desensitize the immune system to wheat proteins so accidental exposure stops being an emergency, and many patients eventually eat wheat again.
Getting the diagnosis right

Test Before You Go Gluten-Free.

Cutting gluten before testing can hide celiac disease, because the antibodies fade on a gluten-free diet.A provider sorts it out in order: a celiac blood panel while you are still eating gluten, a food allergy skin test for wheat, and a history of what happens and how fast. The answer decides the plan.Celiac and gluten sensitivity are managed with diet. Wheat allergy can be treated at the source.
