About these articles

Written From The Exam Room.

Our founder spent more than thirty years in private allergy practice before starting AllergyEasy. These pieces began as his blog and have been updated and consolidated. Each one ends the same way, because the question underneath most of them is the same: can this allergy be treated, not just managed? Usually, yes.Nothing here replaces a conversation with your own physician.

Rain, wind and heat

What The Forecast Does To Pollen.

Rain washes pollen out of the air and then feeds a bigger bloom. Wind carries ragweed hundreds of miles. Heat extends every season.Research in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found American pollen seasons about 20 days longer than in 1990 with about 21 percent more pollen. Thunderstorms can shatter pollen grains into smaller fragments that reach deeper into the lungs.Winter brings its own allergens indoors: dust mites in bedding, pet dander in closed rooms, mold in damp basements.
